Photos on Canvas – Father’s Day
Don’t forget Dad this Father’s Day. We have 2 great gift ideas for Dad this year.
1. Always popular with Dad on Father’s Day are our Photos on Canvas . With our great 4 day turnaround you still have time to get the kids together and take that perfect family photo for Dad. See our pointers on photographing kids in our photography tip below .
2. For something a little different this year why not get Dad a custom destination bus scroll.
These have been very popular as gifts for men over the last few months. They are bold design statements which can be personalised to reflect any man. All you need to do is choose between 10 – 15 destinations or lines and we do the rest. Some popular ideas for gifts for men are: all the places he has lived including where he grew up, his favourite travel destinations, favourite rounds of golf, the 12 best boutique beers on the market, favourite fishing spots – be creative. Check out our website to order your own bus destination scroll or come in and sit with us and we will design it while you wait.
Canvas Tip – Creating a Gallery Wrap
A wrap refers to the canvasthat wraps around the frame and more specifically, what is printed on that canvas.
A Gallery Wrap is the most popular type of wrap. This is where is image continues around the frame. For a gallery wrap to work you need to make sure you have enough ‘spare’ image around the ‘principal’ content of your image.
If you are familiar with photo editing programs, an easy way to check is to crop your image to your desired size + 8cm (eg a 40 x 60cm would be cropped to 48 x 68cm) then put markers over your image at 1.5″ along each edge. What is under the markers is what will wrap around the frame.
Please see enlarged image below.
The content below and to the right on the blue lines is what will wrap around the canvas.
Don’t worry if this does make any sense, our photo editors will always email you a proof to show you exactly what will wrap around the frame, and you can always make changes. Alternatively, drop in and see us and we will work through your photo while you wait!
Photography Tip – Photographing Children
We have covered this before, but we like to focus on this area for Father’s day and Mother’s Day to give our readers the best shot at getting the photo they are after.
Tip 1: Get down on their level.
Tip 2: If you can choose 2 locations, choose an outside location (like a park) and also choose an inside location. When you are inside, plain but bold backgrounds can work well.
Tip 3: Have them wear clothes they are comfortable in.
Tip 4: Ensure there is always lots of light.
Tip 5: Make it fun.
